BC Conservative infighting continues

The BC Conservatives sent out a press release stating that due to continued in-fighting, that most of their directors and party leader Wilf Hanni has resigned.

I had previously posted that I had thought these internal squabbles were resolved after they received a court ruling certifying Wilf Hanni and his supporters on the board as the true directors as the BC Conservative party, but this obviously wasn’t completely rectified.

According to the press release, it appears that legal fees, approximately $30,000, is hindering the party. As directors could potentially be liable for such fees, they resigned to likely avoid facing future liability.

The BC Conservative party currently has only one asset – its name is strikingly similar to a federal party that happens to be in government. If it was not for this, the party would be non-existent. If the people that left the party think they can continue in politics as a different name and have a feasible chance of being elected in the legislature, they will be kidding themselves. They need to look at the BC Refederation Party’s results, which had some of the lowest vote counts in the entire province.

At least the ex-directors of the BC Conservative Party can enjoy Canada Day knowing that they likely will not be personally liable for the party’s liabilities.

In other words rather than being accountable for their party’s debt; they have all decided to cut and run. What a party of losers and to think they ran on a campaign of “accountability” …..

I used to work for these fools, they were fraught from the start. The sad thing is alot of their members and candidates were really smart really kind individuals . They were led by a moron that acts like a crazy pilot, he gets it off the ground but just as quickly it falls and is nothing more than rubble. The conservatives would’ve been better taking other airlines.

This is an attempt by Hanni to avoid paying the legal fees that he racked up after he was caught trying to manipulate the Party members into paying his bills. His liability won’t go away that easy as I’ve heard he guaranteed the debt with the law firm.

  4. Mike Summers commented -
    (July 20, 2009 @ 12:21):

BC Refed couldn’t win a line from the mainstream media. We unfortunately were grossly underfunded. And l;ack of publicity made an effective campaign pretty tough.

But, having said that, we did a 500% increase in votes compared to the previous election. Something we are proud of.

We accomplished much with little and have ZERO debt to contend with. Not bad say I.

Now, after the obvious betrayal of BC by the Liberals, and Harcourt’s NDP of the past, BC Refed stands ready to carry the fight into 2013 as the clearly centrist party that we were and remain.

Most of the Conservatives that resigned, were former BC Reformers whose party was owned by Ron Gamble. It will die with him I suppose. But the Reformers are welcome here because BC Refed isn’t about personalities. It is all about fixing the system we are stuck with right now, and delivery of the power to control politicians and political processes to the people of BC.
