When does the election actually begin?

This post is really nitpicking.
The media has been all over the air today saying that the “campaign has started”.
First of all, the campaign really began last year, but secondly, if they are wondering when the election is formally underway, it hasn’t yet (as of lunch hour on April 14th).
The election only begins when Premier Gordon Campbell goes to Lieutenant Governor Stephen Point’s residence in Victoria and requests that he dissolves the legislature and call an election. Apparently this will be around 5:00 or 6:00pm.
Only when this happens one can say the “election is underway”.
In practice it doesn’t matter. I already see campaign signs up today, even before the writ was dropped.
